I almost got scammed

I use freelancer.com occasionally. I applied for a content writing/copy typing job.

The recruiter got in touch with me and I was required to give a demo. All good, demo given, selected for the job.

The 'manager' of this company, Data Plus contacted me and asked sent over their PowerPoint for new hires. When I went through it, a couple red flags popped up.

  1. They said they were very strict on correct grammar usage, punctuation and spelling. The PowerPoint itself was full of these exact errors.

  2. They mentioned 'we never cheat our customers or employees' - why would one have to put this in the presentation?

  3. It was pay to work. They required people the equivalent of Canadian $75 to get registered with the company, without with jobs couldn't be given out. The first assignment was supposed to be typing 100 pages in six days with over 90% accuracy, otherwise you wouldn't be paid. If you did well, you get paid Canadian $200 for 6 days of work. A pretty attractive offer, beermoney wise.

  4. I googled their company and several people mentioned that it's a huge scam. People paid money, the company sent out a job and completely disappeared when it came payment time.

Just posting this here as a warning to anyone who has applied/been contacted to work with them. Please please google who you work for, especially if they need you to pay upfront.
