How to find worthwhile one off events that need a person?

I know craigslist exists but you don't know who you are sending information to with craigslist. Id prefer a more trusted source. I live in jersey city, right next to nyc, so I have a decent amount of stuff here.

Like basic stuff like taking attendance and handing out badges.
