Behind the Scenes of Cashback Affiliate Sites

I’m just wondering if anybody knows anout some of the behind the scenes of sites like TopCashback/BeFrugal/etc.

The main thing that I am curious about is, so the affiliate sites download orders from the retailers or do the retailers send the orders to the affiliates?

I ask because I just find it odd how you can do say a Walmart order at 1AM and it be tracked within 24 hours then do a second Walmart order the exact same way at 10AM and that order take 3 days to track.

I’m mainly curious because it gets a little anxious when a Bonus like $2.50, $3, $4, $5 is at stake versus just the Cashback or if it’s a big percentage offer like 15% back.
