AppOptix - Passive Data Collection App

AppOptix

AppOptix is an Android-only passive app that pays you to let them track how you use your smartphone. You receive 25 points each week, and once you reach 300 points you will be automatically emailed a $10 Amazon gift card. This app does not install a VPN or anything like that, and I have had this app installed on my devices for years without it interfering with any of the offers I do. I also haven't noticed it significantly affecting my battery level, or causing any other problems.

Every 3 months or so it will ask you to update your profile information. You will be sent an email about this, and you must update your profile within 30 days. You even receive 25 points for updating your info.

Requirements

  • Age 18+

  • Permanent resident of the U.S. and reside in the U.S.

  • Register only one Android smartphone that is your primary device.

  • Must have an active data plan on a U.S. mobile carrier.*

*I have found that if I go too long on wifi only (2+ months) then I stop receiving points. It's best to occasionally turn on your data.

Profile information required: First and last name, general demographic information (marital status, income, education level, etc), and basic information about your home internet and your mobile service (carrier, contract type, etc).

Data collected: You can see the list of data that the app collects under part 7 of their membership agreement. Basically, they collect your general device information and track when, where and how you're using your device. They do not listen to, record, or collect any of your phone calls, text messages, or passwords. They also state that they cannot read any contents of stored files, text messages, or emailed messages. They state this information is analyzed in aggregate form for research purposes.
