Question about app promos on swagbucks

Do you have to download the apps through the swagbucks app? I am giving the billionaire casino thing a try, but downloaded it through the app store since it wouldn't load through the app link. I connected it to my apple account, but if that's gonna result in me getting the SB then I'd like to know before investing more time.
