Are there any legit small typing tasks left that are worth doing in 2026?

Midwest freelancer here. I do the usual beermoney stuff between gigs, and I actually like repetitive typing; I zone out the same way I do in idle/farming mobile games. I keep seeing old threads about subtitle transcription, but a lot of them are years old and AI has clearly changed the landscape.

So my question is: are there any legit platforms in 2026 where a normal person can still make a little money doing typing-based microtasks (captioning, text cleanup, tagging, short audio transcription, etc) without it turning into three hours of unpaid tests and then two dollars for a 40-minute job? Not asking for referral links and not trying to break any TOS. I'm just trying to get a realistic picture.

A few specific things I'm curious about:

- Is captioning basically dead for beginners, or is it just harder to get accepted?

- If you do any typing work, what does your pay actually look like in practice, say per hour after you get competent?

- Any red flags to watch for, like endless qualification exams, high rejection rates, or weird payment delays?

I'm fine with low pay if it's steady and not scammy. Just looking for something more reliable than surveys when it's a slow week. Would love to hear what people are still doing and what is not worth the time anymore.
