Create a US bank account for Canadian?

I have been doing some tests on User Testing and IntelliZoom recently. So far the little that I've earned is just sitting in my regular PayPal account. But my father in law used to do freelance work for an American company and suggested I should get a US bank account so that whatever I earn for beermoney doesn't get dinged for a PayPal conversion fee if I use it in Canada.

Is this worth the effort? Is it even possible?
