Website testing safety

Has anyone here ever tried website testing? I recently read about it, but I'm hesitant about what it installs on your computer. It sounds like it installs something that can record what you are doing on the website, and some you need to talk to or use a camera for. While part of me understands why they might need this, another part of me feels like that sounds very close to the realm of keylogging.
