Hello Everyone,

I am looking for people willing to do a 5 minute zoom recording for my research on racial and gender biases in artificial intelligence. I am paying participants $25 for their time, via venmo. Who I am:

I work for a research consultancy that provides a variety of services centered around the ethical use of artificial intelligence and machine learning. One of our primary services is to audit (test) algorithms for societal bias such as racial or gender bias. Our goal is to help companies avoid discrimination and unfair/harmful outcomes from their algorithms and assist regulators in enforcing the law. To do this, we need a wide range of diverse datasets.

What I am asking for:

A common application of machine learning is face detection, which attempts to detect where a face is in an image, and calculate various parameters from that face (e.g., where are the eyes, nose, and mouth, what direction are you looking, etc.). To test that these algorithms are not biased, I need images from many different people and at many different angles. To that end, I would like to:

1. Record a short video of you over a live webcam where we will ask you to look straight ahead, slowly look to the left, right, up, and down.
2. Record the same video sequence as 1) above, except with a face mask on (any kind will do).
3. Record what race you self identify with.
4. Record what sex you were assigned at birth, and what gender you self identify with, if any.
5. Record your approximate age.

We ask you to wear a face-mask in 2) above because we’d like to test the effectiveness of these face detection algorithms when people have masks on, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Note: If you identify as white or Caucasian, I could still use you, but I have reached my quota for these demographic and can not pay for additional volunteers in these demographics. To get paid, you must identify as one of the above demographics.
