Are self-improvement books / audiobooks / courses useless?

So I've tried a few different audiobooks but I just couldn't finish them, the first part seems like it's always about praising their own book, about how other people got AMAZING results from it, how Jimmy Dum Fuk from across the street became a millionaire after reading/listening to the book. Often it goes throughout the entire book. I just can't make myself finish it because I feel like I'm wasting my time to people trying to sell me what I already have.

Is it just me or are these books...
