r/beermoney from a beer money perspective (kinda long!)
Hey Everyone,
For me, r/beermoney and these sites have always been more related to beer money. I already have a job and live at home while I’m in school (fully paid with scholarships). I don’t need the money, but use it for my beer/drug habit. If I feel that the site isn’t worth my time, I tend to not do it or waste anytime with it. That means I haven’t earned as much money as a lot of other people, but keep to the more trustworthy and worth-my-time sites. I also tend to work on these on my phone while on the go, or on my computer at home. I do not spend all day on these sites, but occasionally a total of a few hours a day.
I started using r/beermoney about two months ago. My first site was Prolific. Lucky right? I stuck with Prolific for about a month before I checked out all the other sites. Anyways, I’ve recently started school again, and also just learned that I passed the Lionbridge exam. If everything works out I’m probably gonna spend a lot less time on beer money sites, so I figured I’d go ahead and share my earnings and thoughts now. This is from the perspective of someone living in the southeast U.S. Since I’m an accounting major, this is also using the accrual method and not the cash basis method. Basically, this includes what I earned/completed, but maybe not yet received.

Sites/Apps That Worked
Prolific (site) - Man this site is my baby. I can’t believe this was my first site. I really thought other sites would be just like this one. Foolish right? For me, this site has been awesome. Once you make a profile and fill out the “About me” section, you’re set for surveys to come to you. I’ve submitted 65 surveys over the last two months, and if you can catch them they not only pay good, but are usually interesting and only take up to the time specified. You are qualified for all that come your way, and as long as you keep the webpage open (either on a computer or on your phone), you should get a few. They will send you emails when you get surveys, but only for a fraction of the ones that actually appear. They cashout in PayPal, and pay in GBP(minimum 5 pounds), which is awesome because it’s worth more than USD so I end up feeling like I earned even more.
Qmee (site/app) - This site and app works well because of the abundancy of surveys. They pay a whole lot less than some of the other sites/apps, so I don’t take every survey, but you can sometimes catch some good paying ones. One issue though is you do get disqualified a lot, so don’t expect to get every survey, maybe closer to 50% or less. They have instant cash out to Paypal (any amount), and also a thing where if you get all 5 “Oinqs” (in other words, an active streak), all surveys pay an extra 10%. If you can’t complete surveys, you can do their daily poll (1 random ass question) and that’ll count towards the streak.
Mturk (site) - With Mturk (owned by Amazon), you have to get approved first, but once you do you can check out all the work they have. The work ranges from micro tasks, to surveys, to transcriptions, and so on. The site is difficult because there is a pretty big learning curve with learning how to use scripts and how to be the most effective (scripts are necessary to reduce rejections and get the most bang-for-your-buck). I’ve been pretty slow but have been learning and recently passed 1,000 approved “HITS” (jobs, surveys, etc.). You need high approval rights to get qualified for most of these tasks. There are qualifications you need for all HITS, a lot of which you don’t have a say in. They payout via Amazon Payments (any amount), which you can set up direct deposit with your bank.
Crowdtap (site/app) - Crowdtap is nice because it’s a lot of very short surveys (1-3 questions), with some other longer surveys thrown in. You get paid in points, and it kinda sucks because you can only cash out in gift cards (1000 points = $5, the smallest gift card), but I’ve gotten some groceries from Walmart and stuff from Amazon, so it still works nice.
Pinecone (site/email) - I saw some others discussing Pinecone on r/beermoney. After some research, I learned that they didn’t have open registration, but you could get a referral through a link. Someone from 6 months ago who posted a comment with 2 upvotes and a link got me into Pinecone, and it’s actually a good site. You get emails (roughly 1 a week, sometimes more) with surveys from different companies trying to test new products. It’s actually pretty interesting, and the surveys usually don’t take too long (10-20mins), and you get paid $3 for each survey. It’s odd because you get paid in points (300 points per survey), and they have a whole shop filled with gift cards and products you can buy. The only way to get cash is to find the correct section and get paid in check (ranging from $3-$15), but it is legit.
Testable Minds (site) - Testable Minds feels a lot like Prolific, but without any surveys. I've gotten four surveys total for the month I've had it. They are interesting, but I just wish there was more. You also can verify yourself to get more surveys, although that consists of sending a photo of your ID. It is a little sketchy, but it's a trustworthy site. Unfortunately, I have not cashed out yet, as the minimum is $10.
Surveys on The Go (app) - Another app where I don’t get too many surveys. I miss some surveys, and get disqualified on a few others. I have actually not payed out from here yet (minimum $10), but it says they payout via Amazon, Visa, Starbucks, or PayPal.
Survey Monkey (app)- I don’t get too many surveys on here, but they tend to be really short and pay pretty good. Payout is in Amazon GC, which is alright.
Curious Cat (app) - This app I just started using. Seems alright, a lot like Qmee in the sense that is has a ton of low-paying surveys and disqualifications. I haven’t cashed out yet, but it says it’s PayPal with any amount, so I will test it soon and update this if needed.
Google Opinion Rewards (app) - This app I’ve had for a while but get barely any surveys. They pay good for how quick they are, but they are few and far between. I have yet to cash out yet, as the minimum is $2. It doesn’t mention what they cash out with, but it is Google so I trust them enough.
Sites/Apps That Didn’t Work
Quickthoughts (app) - This app had good paying surveys for the most part. Some surveys would take too long (longer than stated), and even would disqualify you in the middle of it. But they paid $2 for most surveys, so I pushed with it. At one point I gave up because I hadn’t reached the minimum yet ($10) and the surveys were very mind-numbing, so I deleted the app and sent them an email to delete my account. A week later I decided to try it again, only to discover that my profile was still there and they never emailed me back. Anyways, I made it to the cash out point, got disappointed because it was only iTunes GC (for iPhones, Amazon for Android), and got banned once I tried to cash out :/ I had read that was problem so it wasn’t a surprise.
Swagbucks/GG2U (site) - I wasn’t really into these sites. They have surveys and other activities like watch videos and buying products and earning points. They also had the option of downloading games and playing those until you got to a certain level. The surveys sucked and I wasn’t into the other stuff (felt very spam-ish), so I deleted my accounts.
Respondent/Inspired Opinions/dscout (site/site/app) - These sites and app let you take surveys to see if you qualify for market research studies. If you qualify, you have a chance of being contacted, and the payout always seems to be huge. However, I’ve never been contacted for anything, so it hasn’t worked well for me.
Sorry for the long post. If anyone has any questions about any of these sites or apps, feel free to message me. Shoutout to all of the awesome posters on r/beermoney who helped me tremendously with choosing sites and being efficient (especially u/themightyox)
