Why do companies ask about "household income" and not individual, and how should I answer?

Several online money-making sites (UserTesting-type sites, if it matters) have asked me about my "household income". Well, I like with my parents and they make quite a good income. I, on the other hand, have no income at the moment. Do I really say what my whole house is making (add up what my parents make) in this situation? Seems almost misleading since I'm not making anything right now... why would they want to know about my parents and not me as an individual?
