What's the point of Media Rewards percentage ranking?

I get that you have to make it into the top 50% to qualify for surveys, but what's the point of going beyond that?

It doesn't take long to get to the supposed 50% mark - so I'm guessing the numbers may actually mean nothing, and are just there for sense of progress?
