playtime rewards

I’ve read somewhere or possibly seen youtube vids of folks saying that you could use playtime rewards and just open a game leave it open and earn passively. anyone know if this was/is still a thing. or if they changed it or perhaps it works like this one some apps sites and not others? just tested with cash karma, im being credited for progress but not for time/passively leaving the game open
