Freelancer Bids

Does anyone frequently win bids on freelancer? I signed up 5 years ago and only got 1 shady bid which I ended up declining. I'm trying to get back into it but I can't seem to win a bids. Any tips, tricks from successful freelancers? I'm applying for simple, low skill activities like data entry, transcription, editing, etc.
