Do people pay to play video games with them?

So to explain, a friend of mine was being paid by someone to play video games with them, is this a common thing? I'm not really sure how to go about doing this, but would be interested, to explain further like I have a lot of free time and don't work because of my disabilities and struggle financially as a result, if this can be a thing I'd be really interested and could use some extra money.
