Which state do I setup an Online business with my friends that live in different states?

My friends and I have set up a small media team online and have also started to sell merch to help us raise a bit of funds. There are 3 of us that are the main heads, myself and another are in California and the last is in New Jersey. My friend in New Jersey is the one that is printing all the shirts and hoodies to then sell online.

We are at the stage now where we want to setup an LLC.

What state should we set the company up in? I have read online that setting up an LLC is best to do so in your home state, but I'm torn between setting it up in California or New Jersey? NJ is where we send out our shirts as my friends prints them so isnt that technically the business location? If I set it up in New Jersey do I also have to register it in California (I live there) and vice versa?

Any help, tips or pointers would be much appreciated
