Question for Canadians-- earning beer money/gift cards while on EI for parental leave?

Hey folks,

So in Canada, we get EI when on parental leave. I've read that any money I earn side hustling comes with an equivalent reduction of 50 cents in my EI for each dollar I earn.

Does anyone know if this applies to gift cards? I'd do some stuff for amazon/walmart gift cards just to pay for diapers, but I'm not sure if that's considered income by the government.
